What To Watch Next Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Although the Coronavirus era of Tiger King, ‘Netflix Party,’ and baking banana bread is long gone, we still find ourselves in a somewhat quarantined world. With little else to do, we may find ourselves scrolling through the seemingly endless catalogs on our streaming service of choice. Instead, I’ve compiled a list of a few personalized recommendations based on the position of the stars when you were born.

Aries

You’re facing a lot of personal challenges that can make you feel frustrated. It may seem like everything you want is just out of reach or straight-up unattainable. In reality, you just need time to figure out what is most important in life and hold it close. To give you some hope, help release your frustrations and let you relax a little, you should watch…

Lady Bird (2017)

You’ve probably already seen it, but it’s gotta be time for a rewatch, right? It’s funny, it’s poignant, and it’s easy on the eyes. The mother-daughter relationship is so incredibly real and raw, and I love strong-willed teenagers like Lady Bird. The whole film exudes ‘main character energy.’

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)

whos afraid of virgina woolf.jpg

This drama/comedy is absolutely spectacular in every way. It chronicles the drunken altercations, arguments, and confessions of two couples late one night, in a whip-smart way. Seriously, this film isn’t dull for even a second and will leave you feeling very different than when you started.

Taurus

Many people respect you for your hard work, but sometimes you just need to take time to appreciate what you’ve done, and take a breather. Remember to let yourself indulge, particularly in love, beauty, and emotion...

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

10things.jpg

I feel like you are in need of a solid rom-com. Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt - what more could you need? Seriously, this classic will give you a healthy dose of teen romance, tug at your heartstrings, and give you a good laugh.

Cold War (2018)

coldwar5.0.jpeg

This is one of my favorite foreign films, one of my favorite black and white films, and one of my favorite films, period. It depicts a sensual, impossible romance set in Poland, as the story follows a talented young singer and an esteemed music director.

Gemini

Right now, communication is more important for you than ever. Reach out to that distant relative, long-lost friend, or whomever you feel drawn to. You shouldn’t give in to fear, instead, embrace it.

Before Sunrise (1995)

before-sunrise-2.png

As per Richard Linklater usual, this film consists almost entirely of a stream of conversation spanning philosophy, flirtation, and all things comedy. This particular flick follows a French student and an American tourist after a chance encounter on a train in Europe.

The Shining (1980)

The surreal worlds of Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick’s minds are not necessarily places I’d like to stay for very long, but this masterpiece is all at once stunning, horrifying, and all kinds of subverted.

Cancer

Your intuition and a deep sense of emotion and feeling are just a few of your superpowers. Use these skills to your advantage. Your loved ones need you, so go out and help them…

Spirited Away (2001)

spirited away.jpg

I have a feeling you need some Miyazaki in your night routine, particularly the scene where Chihiro cries into her magical rice ball as she eats it. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed - let it all out.

The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

This delightful adventure film was such a pleasant surprise. The comedic banter delightfully continues throughout the runtime, and the subtle beauty of the film’s natural setting really shines through.

Leo

You can command respect from anyone, but what you truly struggle with is your ego. Find the balance between self-confidence and conceit, and you will be truly happy. Now is the time to connect with loved ones.

The Red Shoes (1948)

This classic tells the story of a ballerina and her rise to - and fall from - fame. I can’t express how epic this film is, so you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Monos (2019)

monos.jpg

This film seriously does not quit. It is, without a doubt, the most consistently striking film I have ever seen. Every shot is exquisite. The story follows eight guerrilla soldiers in the wilderness and the Heart of Darkness and Lord of the Flies shenanigans that ensue.

Virgo

Trust yourself, and trust the journey. The road is long, so be patient. It won’t hurt you to come out of your shell a bit, so don’t be afraid to show someone your true self.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

last black man in sf.jpg

This absolutely gorgeous film explores the meaning of home as two best friends navigate the gentrified city in which they live, their friendships, and their dreams.

Network (1976)

network.jpg

This drama/satire feels like the inspiration for multiple Black Mirror episodes. A news anchor’s trauma and rage are capitalized off of, which sends him - along with the network - into an ugly downward spiral.

Libra

Your internal calmness is just part of what draws new acquaintances to you. The rest is down to how you make them feel. Treat yourself and others with kindness and patience.

Mustang (2015)

mustang.jpg

This coming-of-age is most accurately described as The Virgin Suicides (1999), but better, and Turkish. A scandal within a family sends five sisters down an unpleasant path, along which their sense of unity is strengthened.

Knives Out (2019)

Knives Out are one of those films where you can pay a lot of attention or none and you’ll have a good time either way. It is both blockbuster entertainment and thoughtful art. This whodunnit mystery/comedy is beautifully done.

Scorpio

Your passions are what make you unique - embrace them. Explore what interests you, and go beyond. Keep going, remember your priorities, and set some goals. Right now, you need a good old-fashioned mindf*ck.

Perfect Blue (1997)

perfect-blue.jpg

A superstar’s sense of reality unravels as she tries to shed her old persona as a ‘good girl.’ The animation is spectacular, as per Satoshi Kon’s usual, and really captures the eerie world which we, as viewers, dive into.

Coherence (2013)

coherence.jpg

This film spooked the heck out of me. Man, it is such a trip. Eight friends gather one night and a strange chain of events unfolds, subsequently revealing a mysterious truth.

Sagittarius

You’re feeling antsy, curious, and ready to go out and explore. Remember not to promise more than you can guarantee. Spend time outdoors, and utilize your independence in a new way.

Thoroughbreds (2017)

This is one of the most refreshing mixes of the comedy and thriller genres ever! It is a beautiful and witty story of a rekindled friendship borne out of the strangest of circumstances.

Short Term 12 (2013)

Brie Larson, Lakeith Stanfielf, Rami Malek, and Kaitlyn Dever all star in this indie flick set at a California care institution for at-risk teens. Tensions build as they explore their experiences of abuse and traumas.

Capricorn

It’s okay to not get your way sometimes, it happens to everyone. Don’t let this discourage you, though. Take some time to step back and reflect. You could benefit from connecting to your roots: spend time with family, and revisit some of your old hobbies.

Roman Holiday (1953)

This classic romance fulfills anyone’s aesthetic cravings and is the perfect way to end a stressful day. Some of us just want to be an undercover princess hiding away in Rome…

The Farewell (2019)

farewell.jpg

Lulu Wang does not get nearly as much hype as she deserves. This indie follows a family that must say goodbye to a dying relative without revealing to the relative that she only has a few weeks to live. It is pretty and poetic, with a gentle touch of comedy.

Aquarius

I know you’re feeling a bit of pressure, but there’s no rush. Trust yourself, trust your instincts, but remain cautious in your communication with others. Right now, you need some fun and some friends.

Paris is Burning (1990)

paris is burning.jpg

This is the most fun documentary, ever. Seriously. It captures drag queens and ‘house’ culture of New York City in the 80s. Above everything else, it chronicles the fashion, art, and drama of this subculture and lifestyle.

The Florida Project (2017)

the florida project.jpg

I figured I’d sneak a good cry in for you. Don’t worry, I bawled like a baby at the end of this and I’m a Scorpio. Anyway, it’s beautiful, heartbreaking, and well worth your time.

Pisces

You may be feeling a bit scared, but worrying will only get you so far. Keep doing what you do best - generosity and empathetic interactions - and you’ll do just fine. In order to escape real-life stress, I suggest some Hollywood-induced stress…

Whiplash (2014)

whiplash.png

This movie is an absolutely gut-wrenching and explosive experience that you will have to feel out for yourself. Every aspect of this film is excellent, but ultimately it’s the narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Big Sick (2017)

This Prime Original is adorable, hilarious, and perfect for any mood, any time of the day. And I mean, come on, I know you love a rom-com.
