Jade LeMac on Her GLAAD Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist Nomination and Deluxe EP
[UNPUBLISHED:] Hi Jade! How’re you doing?
[JADE LEMAC:] Hi! I’m good. Just enjoying the rain here in Vancouver.
[UNPUBLISHED:] The last time we touched base was when you released Constellations - what have you been up to since then?
[JADE LEMAC:] Lots and Lots of writing. I released my recent EP Confessions in November, and just put out the first song of the deluxe version, “Narcissistic,” on the 26th!
[UNPUBLISHED:] Speaking of EPs, I heard you’re releasing another one soon - what are you most excited about regarding that?
[JADE LEMAC:] Yes, Confessions' deluxe version has 3 new songs on it (including “Narcissistic”) and they all show a different side to my writing than all the songs I already have released. So it’s exciting to have people listen to them for that reason. The lyrics and stories in these new songs are almost taboo, which is why I felt like they needed to be added to this EP. They’re a B-side to “Confessions” because they’re about things you joke about in a group chat but shouldn’t say out loud. A few more confessions!
[UNPUBLISHED:] What can fans expect from the new project?
[JADE LEMAC:] Fans can expect a more fun side of me. I did some experimenting while creating these songs, so there’s almost a comedic connection between them all.
[UNPUBLISHED:] How do you think you’ve evolved as an artist since your debut EP release?
[JADE LEMAC:] I’ve grown a lot. I’m still young and at this age, I believe I’m changing all the time. I’ve learned so much about my writing, my music, and the goals I have as an artist in general.
[UNPUBLISHED:] I loved your new song “Narcissistic” - what was the inspiration behind the single?
[JADE LEMAC:] Maybe it’s just me, but I have seen so many people love toxic relationships. Me personally? No - but I still thought it would be fun to write about.
[UNPUBLISHED:] What was your process of creating it?
[JADE LEMAC:] Honestly, I had the word “narcissistic” in my notes as a song idea for a long time, and I heard the production and thought it was the perfect opportunity to use it. I wanted to put a fun twist on the song, so instead of writing about a narcissist, we wrote it from the perspective of one. Within a few hours, it was done.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Congrats on being nominated for ‘Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist’ at the GLAAD Media Awards, that’s so exciting! How does that feel?
[JADE LEMAC:] This is my first-ever nomination for any type of award so I am very excited, and grateful. It is such a cool thing to be nominated for, and I’m honored to even be a part of it at all.
[UNPUBLISHED:] How did your friends and family react when you were nominated?
[JADE LEMAC:] They were all very proud and excited for me, especially my mom. She’s my biggest supporter, she obviously thought it was the coolest thing ever.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Anything else we can expect coming up aside from the new EP?
[JADE LEMAC:] There are a lot of things I’m working on so stay tuned. I’m very excited for this new year.
