Inhaler Releases Intoxicating Single, “Love Will Get You There” From Sophomore Album Cuts & Bruises
Dirtier bass lines. Experimental visuals. More down-to-earth intimate vocals. We could say that “These Are The Days” that Dublin-born band Inhaler welcomes a new era of rock n’ roll tunes with more volume and grit than ever before.
It’s clear that the group was pulling on our heart strings with their debut album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, released in 2021. The critically-acclaimed album became a chart topping hit on the UK and Irish Charts with beloved tracks like “Cheer Up Baby”, “When It Breaks” and “Who’s Your Money On? (Plastic House)” circulating across airwaves. Remembering our conversation with the rock band almost a year ago - it’s fascinating to watch the band evolve with a familiar sound yet with a stronger attitude.
The much anticipated sophomore album embraces its first two debut singles with “These Are The Days” and most recently, “Love Will Get You There”. With Elijah Hewson (vocals/rhythm), Robert Keating (bass), Josh Jenkinson (lead guitar), and Ryan McMahon (drums) - back with an uplifting lovers track - Inhaler’s discography is progressing, with a more technically vibrant touch by the minute.
Directed by James Arden, the music video for “Love Will Get You There” follows the bandmates performing a spoof of a Late Late Show. Each bandmate performs their role in the video with some very intriguing personalities, almost opposite to their real-life characters. Other than the incredibly creative atmosphere, the song itself is already a hit with fans flocking to the comment section on the YouTube video complimenting the new Inhaler era. Listeners truly can’t get enough.
“Love Will Get You There” aligns with Inhaler’s announcement of Cuts & Bruises being the album that they had always wanted to make. The song begins with a ringing guitar chord that bounces an eerie uneasiness from ear to ear. Followed by an Inhaler-identifiable attribute, the bass line presses into the foreground. The opposing guitar lead balanced by the bass and then supported by the pounding rhythmic drum beat, begins the instrumental track behind yet another well-produced Inhaler record.
After its release, this song left me on the edge of my seat. With its raw lyrical arrangements and experimental instrumental, I’m eagerly waiting for the next follow up single to this vulnerable yet honest record. As Hewson sings, “And it rains harder / If you deny it / And slowly falls through the crack of your mind / When you’re hanging on for dear life” - I feel as though this intimate mindset is rarely spoken about in popular music especially through a rock n’ roll record. Which makes it that much more intoxicating.
The band reveals the truth to how to get up off the floor when you’re feeling at your lowest. This thematic element intertwined with Inhaler’s identifiable rock sound creates a safe and honest atmosphere. With McMahon and Keating creating an ultimate instrumental duo introducing the song, Jenkinson taking powerful control on lead guitar, and Hewson’s haunting yet soothing vocals bouncing between his rhythm guitar lines - a new experimental vision of the Inhaler world is truly shown in “Love Will Get You There”.
As It Won’t Always Be Like This closed a chapter of the band’s life from the very beginning of their careers as musicians - the importance of “Love Will Get You There” offers an intimate re-entrance of the band’s inner monologue for their listeners, especially those who were with them from the very beginning. With themes of love, despair and hope rhythmically intertwining Hewson’s vocals - the new track reflects the personality of Inhaler’s earlier work - while challenging the bandmates to use their skills to their highest potential.
