[UNPUBLISHED:] Congrats on releasing your newest single “dirty dishes” - what are you most excited about in regard to the new release?

[KING MALA:] Thank you! I’m most excited for the new sound that this song is introducing. It’s the first taste of the new project and some of the new themes coming soon!

[UNPUBLISHED:] Tell us a little about the song and the inspiration behind it

[KING MALA:] This song is probably the purest song i've ever written, it's just about being in love and trying your best to be better for someone else. I realized I rarely take care of myself unless it's for other people and although I suppose that is a bit sad, I find it quite beautiful.

[UNPUBLISHED:] Can you walk us through your creative process for this single

[KING MALA:] I've had this song for a long time so I had a lot of time to game-plan the creative rollout for it. After I wrote the song and decided to put it out, I started out by creating an entire mood board for the new project and deciding on the vibe visually and sonically. Then I chose certain references in that board for dirty dishes and worked with my director to make the treatment for the music video and visuals. I then started leaking everything on the internet because I love audience testing and seeing how people relate to the things I make before releasing them. Then we finished the visuals and released the song!

[UNPUBLISHED:] Your new single “dirty dishes” seems to be a bit more vulnerable than previous releases, how does it feel to be releasing something so intimate with such a large audience?

[KING MALA:] Terrifying but right you know? It feels like I'm finally doing what I have always wanted to do.

[UNPUBLISHED:] What are you most excited about for the future?

[KING MALA:] I am most excited to release all of this new music and keep making things I love.

[UNPUBLISHED:] What is one fun fact that not many people know about you?

[KING MALA:] I'm a secret sucker for Disney movie soundtracks.
