Love Moor on Rebirth and Transformation in Her Debut EP, 'LOVE'

In an increasingly cruel world, Love Moor offers a respite for tired and broken hearts. Her music screams, “Why care less when you could love more?” Love Moor is an eclectic Alternative Neo-soul artist who builds beautifully crafted, revealing songs that revolve around themes of intimacy, vulnerability, sexuality and self-love.

An island girl with southern roots, Love Moor brings a deliciously eclectic mix of influences to her music. Her warm, raspy vocals sing evocative stories about relationships, sexuality, empowerment and heartbreak with mature introspection.

Not only is LOVE an extension of the songstress, but it encompasses her inner world and represents her journey of shedding layers to blossom into the most thriving, radiant version of herself. LOVE touches on the optimistic, sensual and funny aspects of Love Moor as a lover. She sets out to convey the depth of true love in all its forms – from vulnerability to fierceness, insecurity to confidence and the shift from lust to love.

“My new EP LOVE represents self-love and me really coming into my own as a Black woman,” Love Moor says.

Her first project Motions, which dropped November 2020, was a relatable, vulnerable collection of Love’s emotions, focusing on her feelings of dissociation due to chaotic world events. The project caught national attention and in 2022 Love Moor signed to Human Re-Sources.

[UNPUBLISHED]: Thank you for sitting down and talking to Unpublished Magazine. Our readers would love to get to know you and your music more. For any readers who are unfamiliar, what inspires your creative persona and style?

[LOVE MOOR]: I think it's just a natural energy, being a Black woman and having a Caribbean background and all the influences around that.

[UNPUBLISHED]: Can you talk us through your evolution of music since your first album release Motions to your debut EP release LOVE?

[LOVE MOOR]: Motion was back in 2020. I put out Motion because everybody including myself have been going through the motions of life in 2020 – the year of our Armageddon, even if it was just like spiritually. Now, it’s like the carry over from that and the restart and rebirth of the reliving. Putting out the LOVE EP is more of an undertone of the foresight of good things to come and that are happening. It's an overview of who I am as a person and what healing I have done to get me to this position in my life.

[UNPUBLISHED]: The word rebirth is so powerful, especially when it applies to your artistic work. How has your creative growth gone through a rebirth through LOVE?

[LOVE MOOR]: Me, my creativity and my team, there’s been a huge shedding, so that sounds crazy but it feels like a new skin. This butterfly energy and it’s very refreshing. I think the music sounds refreshing as well and it just plays off of all of that, so a lot of newness in my life, a lot of optimism and bright-eyed hope.

[UNPUBLISHED]: Why did you name the EP LOVE?

[LOVE MOOR]: LOVE is also me, so that was the first thought of it. I did want the EP to reflect different part of myself, but LOVE is everyone and everything, so I still wanted that aspect of even though it’s my POV, people get their POV because it’s not just me, it’s all the different aspects of love, emotions and love as an act of love and as a person.

[UNPUBLISHED]: I love the shedding layers metaphor that you used to describe the project. It really speaks to the growth and evolution of your style, as well as shedding so many layers of yourself that no longer serve you. What was the inspiration behind LOVE?

[LOVE MOOR]: The EP touches on me and my current journey, reestablishing myself in the world after 2020. It sounds really morbid, but I feel like a piece of me just died and I had to regain this idea of what it is to live and what is my purpose. That’s the biggest thing, like coming out of the gate with human resources with gentleness and having all of that optimism and speaking life into my life was the biggest aspect around all of this coming together.

[UNPUBLISHED]: What did the creative process for LOVE look like?

[LOVE MOOR]: This is also a very new experience for me like previously, I would just get beat tags from producers and whenever the creative bug would hit me, I would just go for it. I still do stuff like that now, but within this process for this EP, it was more collaborative. I finally got myself into a studio with producers, some writers and we got my ideas that worked perfectly for me. This particular process was a little bit different, but definitely came out great and it still feels and sounds all like me.

[UNPUBLISHED]: Speaking of collaboration, the lead single “Pacifier” that features Moliy just brings an eclectic mix of your own influences as well as hers. What was the inspiration behind “Pacifier?”

[LOVE MOOR]: “Pacifier” came together extremely organically to me. That was the first day that I met Moliy, I happened to be in the studio when she got there and I laid down some verses and she liked it enough to get into the studio and do her own thing as well. To this day I'm still stunned at how amazing our voices sound together and how her writing compliments me and that's really how it's been or how it was, but we definitely connected and we're still tight.

[UNPUBLISHED]: “Pacifier” also has an accompanying music video. What was the inspiration behind the video and how was your experience shooting that?

[LOVE MOOR]: Shooting the music video for “Pacifier” was one of the best times of my life. We went out to Miami, and I grew up in Miami, so not only did I get to spend time with my family, but this time, the video felt like a girls trip that I’ve never had before. There was a lot of good fellowshiping on top of it so I got to work with an amazing director and she was a part of the girls trip. Everybody there was there for the same goal , which was to make “Pacifier” with the actual filming.

[UNPUBLISHED]: What is your favorite song from LOVE and why do you love the song? Is there a specific lyric or message that stands out to you the most that you always gravitate towards?

[LOVE MOOR]: This is hard. It's probably a tie between “Gentle” and “Sequel.” I'm gonna go ahead and go against my Libra body and make a decision. I'm gonna say “Gentle” is my favorite. I love the vibe of it and it’s one of those songs that’s definitely my evergreen. Everytime it comes up, I feel so refreshed. “Gentle” feels like the current soundtrack of my life.

[UNPUBLISHED]: You just mentioned that you recently moved to LA. Are you still inspired by Miami's music scene? Do you notice a difference between the two music scenes?

[LOVE MOOR]: I lived in Birmingham, Alabama for a long time between Miami and here. I still don’t understand the Miami culture. Miami culture of music is literally its own world. I've only been here in LA for a little bit, maybe about a month, but haven't gotten to really feel what their music style is like. Miami, within my music, I have not touched it yet but I do want to get in the habit of dabbling a bit in the near future.

[UNPUBLISHED]: Did you have any lessons or breakthroughs while creating LOVE? I can’t even imagine the transformational journey it’s been for you since you first started working on the project.

[LOVE MOOR]: Yes, to be honest, I feel like within creating this, I realized that I can create my reality and I can speak my future and as I'm doing that, I'm watching what I manifest come to life and that's really been the biggest thing.

[UNPUBLISHED]: What advice do you have to offer for young female creatives who are establishing themselves right now in the music industry?

[LOVE MOOR]: BREATHE. Exclamation mark. For me, a Libra with ADHD, it’s so easy to overthink and find yourself in such a new place, especially if you don’t know much about the music industry. Please take moments to breathe and understand what serves you and what doesn’t serve you, but everything’s going to be okay.

[UNPUBLISHED]: How are you feeling in this current era of your career? What does the rest of the year look like that you'd like to share with Unpublished Magazine?

[LOVE MOOR]: Not to be that girl, but everyday feels like a dream. It’s one of those lucid dreams where you know you cannot control the past. As far as things that are coming up, I’m definitely looking forward to doing extremely amazing performances. I can't wait to get in front of some more people so that we can vibe in real life and those are coming in slowly but surely. I'm not ready to start talking about the next body of work yet, but I'm sure the shows are about to be coming in and that's going to be very exciting, not only for me, but for everyone. The new listeners will find out and feel the love and have the best experience.
