Nicolas McCoppin finally released his highly anticipated debut album ‘Loverboy’  on Sept. 25, 2020. The album was teased one last time with the release of his single “Heaven”, accompanied by a music video that premiered on Sept. 23. As the third track of the new album, “Heaven” is a club-ready flirty jam that is sure to keep anyone on their feet and dancing.

This eight-track album is perfect for any fans of the 2018 song “Dance To This”, an infamous collaboration by Troye Sivan and Ariana Grande. When it premiered on Queerty, Nicolas McCoppin’s latest release “For Years” was described as “channeling the work of Drake, Ariana Grande and a hint of early Miley Cyrus.”

In an interview with The Queer Review, McCoppin reveals that Sivan and Grande, along with numerous other beloved pop artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Mariah Carrey and Dua Lipa are, in fact, some of his biggest inspirations vocally and musically.

As a New York based artist, McCoppin has disclosed that “the project is not only about falling in love with a boy, but it also doubles as a love note to New York.” After having grown up in a small town in Upstate New York, as well as having written and recorded every track from his debut EP in this state, Nicolas McCopppin feels that New York as a whole has played a huge role in the making of his music. It’s where every story narrated through his art took place, as well as the very place every sound eventually turned into song was ultimately born. This sentiment is especially brought out in the song “City Of Love”, the very last track on the album.

According to the rising popstar, this album is his pride and joy. “This record is my baby and I’m so excited for everyone to finally hear it in full!” said McCoppin.

The project has been two years in the making and has been teased by various early releases. The single “Remember Than Night”, co-written by Nicolas McCoppin and Krysta Youngs, is a song about falling in love for the first time. Since its release, it has amassed up to 30,000+ streams on Spotify, and has even been added to several playlists including “Future Pop” and Top 40’s “Top 100.” Although the single was released on June 5, 2020, the very beginning of Pride Month, McCoppin had previously attempted to delay its premiere in light of the Black Lives Matter movement. Since his efforts were unsuccessful, he accompanied the release of the single with a message on Twitter directed to those fighting for the rights of Black communities.

Diversity and proper representation of marginalized communities are extremely important to the artist. In an interview with Authority Magazine, McCoppin stated that “As a white gay man I try and advocate for my trans brothers and sisters, especially my Trans POC brother and sisters as much as I can.”

Rumoured to be the next Charli XCX and compared to various pivotal Queer artists such as Hayley Kioyoko and Troye Sivan, Nicolas McCoppin is on his way to becoming one of the greats. He’s even been described as a “smooth pop hottie”  by Queerty, and a “rising figure in the LGBTQ+ community” by Instinct Magazine.

All of his early singles have amassed up to 100,00+ streams on Spotify, and his single “Ur Love” was released worldwide at #25 on the “Incoming Pop” playlist, among other songs by Katy Perry, Niall Horan, Christina Aguillera and Chloe MK. The single was even hailed by VEVO as “bound to be a hit”.

McCoppin describes his own music as “true to himself,” and he values authenticity above all else. By sticking to his original dance-pop style, the artist has managed to  produce an incredible collection of totally danceable 80s-inspired pop bops throughout this eight-track-long, eagerly awaited debut album.
