So…We Heard You Like Dominic Fike
Can’t get enough of Dominic Fike’s discography and are reeling to hear similar hypnotic rock sounds? We’ve got you covered. Since the debut of HBOs season 2 of Euphoria, Dominic Fike’s music has gained an even greater audience through his role as Elliot, one of the teenagers in the awarded drama. We’ve found some artists that we believe if you like Dominic Fike’s music, you're going to dig these insanely talented musicians.
Jean Dawson
If I could tell you to deep dive into one artist right now it would be Jean Dawson. Dawson captures the epitome of a genre-defying artist on the rise with his sonic boomin beats. He creates a world filled with a melting pot of new-wave, ‘90s grunge, alt-pop and indie rock sounds that never cease to amaze me. Dawsons debut project Bad Sports was followed by one hell-of-a record, Pixel Bath, that has been one of my favourite albums since its 2020 release. Every track on Pixel Bath has the listener pressing their headphone closer into their ears as the ethereal sounds are unlike anything heard before. Tracks that we recommend throwing into your library are “Power Freaks”, “Triple Double” ft. A$ap Rocky, “Starface*”, and “Devilish”. The whole album is a ‘non-skip’ piece of art and deserves incredible amounts of recognition.
Cosmo Pyke
Cosmo Pyke is an artist I feel so lucky to have found. There is something so incredibly satisfying through Pyke’s production style that unfolds in each track. The first song I heard from Cosmo Pyke was “Social Sites”, a 2016 release that later found itself on the tracklist for his 2017 EP Just Cosmo. The 2017 EP encompasses a sweet collection of brilliant tunes that truly show off the talents and the mind of Pyke. With smooth jazz recordings mixed with a melodic R&B attitude, tracks such as “Great Dane” and “Chronic Sunshine” will have you feeling all the butterflies while sipping on a cup of sunshine. His last project, the 2021 EP A Piper for Janet, increases these ethereal sounds as he turns to the usage of more acoustic instruments for instrumentation. We recommended heading over to Cosmo Pyke’s discography and checking out his newest project, especially “Fillet Mignon” and “Seasick” - this one will give you chills!
Oscar Welsh
I first found Oscar Welsh when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020. It was at the exact moment when the world completely stopped moving. It was a surreal time to find music, and even more surreal to find an artist on the other side of the world who made music that expressed exactly how you were feeling at a time of uncertainty. Oscar Welsh’s “Weird Times” and “Get Yourself To Sleep” were two tracks that I played on repeat while going on drives to keep myself occupied at peak quarantine. The groovy bedroom indie pop sounds kept me feeling happy when I needed it the most. He then released “S.A.D” and “Sixteen” shortly after, and I was instantly attached to his production style even more. It was unlike anything I had heard, and he did most of the production by himself at his home in England making the music that much more intimate with the listener. His debut EP Vernal has everything you need to get a taste of Welsh’s style but he truly blew me away with his second EP Aestival delivered in 2021. We hear a larger taste of smooth jazz and witty R&B entering the soundscape, while Welsh’s melodic vocals create a beautiful dialogue against the unique production style. Oscar’s feel-good tunes will make your heart warm!
Claire Roskinkranz
Claire Rosinkranz’ music has gotten quite the attention when her 2020 hit “Backyard Boy” took off on the TikTok platform. After hearing this catchy tune, I went down a rabbit hole of her discography. What made me so attracted to her style was knowing that she makes all her music with just herself and her dad. A duo that makes insanely catchy bedroom pop tunes who had me hooked with their 2020 EP BeVerly Hills BoYfRiEnd, the sarcastic spelling intentional of course. Along with her 2021 release of “Frankenstein”, I could feel her urging to want to incorporate more of an indie rock sound to her style and that idea is even more evident with her latest release “i h8 that i still feel bad for u”. Her unique vocals find a large range of melodic tones, making her sound stand out amongst the sea of bedroom pop artists. The lyrical arrangements she writes for her feel-good grooves sound like they come right from the mind of any young person trying to figure out this complicated world. Every song I listen to of Claire’s, I catch myself feeling so understood and happy that someone was able to say what I’ve been wanting to say for so long - while making it into a beautiful arrangement. She reaches her audience by using real and relatable experiences.
Hard Car Kids
The 6-artist collection that comprises Hard Car Kids, is a group that I have been wanting to write about for so long because they truly rock every song they create. The Detroit-based collective is supported by the talents of Charlie Burg, stoop lee, Jacob Sigman, Austenyo, Munch, and Leo Pastel. The first project Hard Car Kids had created was released in 2019 with a collection of smooth, intimate R&B sounds found in “Tha Breeze”, “Tha Steeze”, and “Palm Trees”. When I first heard this project, it was the best feeling in the world because I felt like I had been looking for a style like Hard Car Kids for ages. If you're searching for some chill anthems that incorporate different voices and artistic styles - you’ve come to the right place. They’re 2021 EP Dream Cruise deserves crazy recognition as each song sounds like they’re speaking directly to the listener. When I listened to this EP for the first time, it felt like it was the collective and myself, and they were telling me these stories that I didn’t even know I needed to hear. They have conversations with the music itself, which is a technique that has opened my eyes to the way music is produced.
Dijon
I first found Dijon with his 2019 release of “Skins” and instantly thought ‘wow, he’s got something special here’. Dijon has become one of my favourite artists especially in the last few years. His 2021 album Absolutely encompasses so much energetic rhythm that is hard to turn off. The instrumentation is so pure and absolute, mixed with his pressurizing vocals - it’s a full project that makes you feel like you’re inside the mind of Dijon. This feeling is immensely found in tracks such as “Credits!”, “Many Times”, “Rodeo Clown” and “Noah’s Highlight Reel”. This album is a project that I will never stop recommending to my friends because it holds so much meaning in each word that is sung beside each instrument that harmonizes with the ethereal feeling of pure bliss. One of the most true artists on the scene at the moment with each of his songs giving the listener a dopamine hit while sending them off with a key to open this door into his genius mind.
Talia Goddess
I only found Talia Goddess recently, and I still don’t understand what took me so long to hear her music. Talia holds an anti-pop sound in her music that should not go unknown. Her debut album Poster Girl released in 2021, fills the room with so much character as we deep dive into an ethereal ambiance. Tracks such as “Fantasy” make you feel like you are slowly falling, where to? That part is up to you. Her tracks “Poster Girl” and “Let Go” bounce a unique bass energy that she compliments with her somber vocals. The amount of times I’ve played “Poster Girl” is uncharted, the production style on this track is mindblowing and I cannot get enough.
Jany Green
Jany Green is another artist that I have been waiting to write about for so long. He’s got something about him that is so charismatic and kind, that is incredibly transferable through his music. I first found Jany Green at the beginning of 2020 when he released his first singles such as “Suffocate”, “Little”, and “Move”. These tracks go crazy at those chill hangouts with your friends in your parents basement or in your student house with your roommates as you prepare to head out for the night. I’ve been following Jany Green’s discography since his first single release in 2019, “City Lights”. Since then I knew he was going to be taking off soon, because people are going to go absolutely crazy when they hear what this artist has to offer.
Kid Smoko
With all of their music written, mixed and mastered by the band; Kid Smoko is the missing piece that you’ve been searching for to fill your playlists. Kid Smoko is the group of Michael Burke, Sam Berkley, Declan Martins, Matt Salort and Michael Ferranti - based in New Jersey. The group creates art that makes the listener pay attention, with their hypnotic beats and rock energy - the group creates a production style that stands out, making them such a unique group to find in the industry. The guitar lines in their songs have me hooked, and I truly cannot get enough. We recommend listening to “Tommy Boy”, “Can’t Hear”, “Come With Me” and “End of the Night”. Their entire 2019 album Not Your Son, is truly a non-skipper as it flows from harder guitar melodies to smoother indie sounds closing out the album. Kid Smoko has got something special and we can’t wait for you to hear them.
