The Ultimate Halloween Playlist
SONG ONE: “I Put A Spell On You” - Annie Lennox
There is no debating that this song is a classic. It is witchy and spooky and makes you want to get up and boogie. This song is featured in some of the most quintessential Halloween movies such as Hocus Pocus. Although this version is not the original, it is my favorite and I cannot endure a spooky season without at least one dance session to it. “I Put A Spell On You” is inherently a Halloween song, but can obviously be listened to at all occasions.
SONG TWO: “This Is Halloween” - Andrew Gold
This song made its debut in the breathtaking film, A Nightmare Before Christmas, and has been a staple Halloween song since then. I know it is debatable if A Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, but this track is undoubtedly a staple Halloween anthem. When watching the sequence to this song in the film, it is impossible to not become engulfed in the Halloween spirit. “This Is Halloween” has no flaws and is a key attribute to having a successful Halloween.
SONG THREE: “Calling All The Monsters” - China Anne McClain
Do not even get me started on how much I love this song. “Calling All The Monsters” was the eternity of my childhood Halloweens. When I think of Halloween, this song automatically plays in my mind. Not only did China Anne McClain absolutely own this song, but she also raised many teens today off of her character in the Disney show A.N.T. Farm. “Calling All The Monsters” has a special place in my heart and, to me, is truly the pinnacle of all Halloween songs ever.
SONG FOUR: “Spooks” - Louis Armstrong
After just seconds of listening to this song, you will automatically be in the Halloween spirit. The creepy ambiance created is perfect for the spooky season. As you keep listening, Armstrong's deep, jazzy voice transcends the song and culminates to the world around you. This is the perfect song to prepare you for a night of spooks.
SONG FIVE: “The Boogie Monster” - Gnarls Barkley
Now this song is not necessarily a Halloween song, but it will most definitely be one on any Halloween playlist that you are creating. This song has the energy of a wild Halloween night—running down the street with your friend, feeling infatuated with the idea of something new. “Love Potion No.9” has a beautiful, spooky, witchy tone that makes it fit perfectly into the Halloween season.
SONG SIX: “Love Potion No.9” - The Clovers
Now this song is not necessarily a Halloween song, but it will most definitely be one on any Halloween playlist that you are creating. This song has the energy of a wild Halloween night—running down the street with your friend, feeling infatuated with the idea of something new. “Love Potion No.9” has a beautiful, spooky, witchy tone that makes it fit perfectly into the Halloween season.
SONG SEVEN: “Thriller” - Michael Jackson
“Thriller” is a given. Michael Jackson shook the world with this song and continues to create the perfect ambiance for every Halloween. If you think this song is spooky, do yourself a favor and go watch the music video. The video depicts zombies rising from the dead and dancing to the song. Writing it out makes it sound pretty silly, but as a kid, I was so terrified by this music video because it made me think that a zombie apocalypse was on its way. Although I was scared of the video and the song, it never made me doubt that “Thriller” did exactly what a Halloween song was meant to do, be scary!
SONG EIGHT: “Time Warp” - Rocky Horror Picture Cast
I cannot say enough positive things about Rocky Horror. It is truly the most fantastic movie of all time and makes me feel emotions that I did not even know that I had. I have a tradition to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween, so this song has a special place in my heart. This song is spooky in just the right ways and makes you excited to get in the Halloween spirit.
SONG NINE: “Cannibal” - Ke$ha
Obviously, this song is not a Halloween song per se, but it most definitely will get you into the Halloween spirit. When I hear this song, I think of a big group of people dancing together in costumes. It is a perfect Halloween party song. Although it is a pop song, it is a little spooky in its lyrics, and overall it is just a banger.
