The Rise of Nostalgia

Recently there has been a rise in nostalgia among teens, with trends such as polaroid cameras and Y2K accessories coming back in style. I believe that this can be attributed to this current generation growing up in a constantly changing and complicated world full of unprecedented times and technology. Especially with the rise of social media, social interactions and self-image/identity have now become more complicated than ever before. No longer do teens have to care only about how they portray themselves in face-to-face interactions, but now also have to care about the type of image they portray on the internet. I wanted these pictures to convey the “simplistic” nature of the past that many teens are nostalgic for, for when they were young and didn’t have to worry about their ever changing self image.
