Duckwrth on Sliding Into Syd’s DM's, His Favorite Vegan Italian Spot, and His New EP, Chrome Bull
[UNPUBLISHED:] How does it feel to be playing Outside Lands?
[DUCKWRTH:] Serendipitous. I used to sneak in here a lot so to be able to rock the main stage is pretty crazy. It’s a really surreal feeling.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Do you have a song you’re most excited to perform?
[DUCKWRTH:] I’m performing three new songs today and I just dropped a new one with Syd called “Ce Soir.” The intro to the show is going to be a new one called “Let Me Shine,” which I’m still learning the words to and I also have a song called “Beg” with my homegirl CLAY. I’m excited about all three of those.
[UNPUBLISHED:] You’ve been playing tons of festivals recently, do you have a favorite one so far?
[DUCKWRTH:] Lollapalooza was a really great experience. The sound was supreme and the audience eas giving - they held nothing back. The weather was really nice and hopefully, Outside Lands will beat it though.
[UNPUBLISHED:] You’re going on tour this fall, are there any particular songs you’re excited to play specifically for the tour?
[DUCKWRTH:] Definitely the new EP. I’m dropping the new EP called Chrome Bull on October 21st and I’m excited to perform those new songs because they’re all dance songs.
[UNPUBLISHED:] What makes you feel close to home when you’re on tour? Any items you can’t go on the road without?
[DUCKWRTH:] Facetimes from friends and good food. Also, a f*cking bath, I will soak in a bath.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Are there any items you can’t live without while on tour?
[DUCKWRTH:] There is this one scent from Maison Margiela, it’s one of the fall scents but it’s so good. I can’t go without that - period.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Congrats on releasing your song “Ce Soir” with Syd, what was the inspiration behind the song?
[DUCKWRTH:] I mean it’s supposed to be an undercover way of talking about an exchange in foreplay. Even the post-hook is “Je vais vous manger ce soir,” and I’m not going to translate it but if you decide to translate it, that would be great. It’s me trying to find a cool new way of talking about it without being so blatant in it.
[UNPUBLISHED:] The Syd feature on the song was amazing, your voices complement each other so well, how did that collaboration come to happen?
[DUCKWRTH:] We’ve always just run into each other and I’ve loved and appreciated her for such a long time. I saw that she followed me one day and we’d say a couple of things back and forth and then I was making “Ce Soir” and had a second verse open. I didnt think I should do it so I sat with it in the Uber and then I slid into the DM’s. I sent her it and she sent me a verse back in three hours. It was lucky because she was just in her studio that day.
[UNPUBLISHED:] If you could describe the new song in three words, what would they be?
[DUCKWRTH:] Sensual, tasty, and unhinged.
[UNPUBLISHED:] We know you’re a Los Angeles native, what are some of your favorite things to do?
[DUCKWRTH:] There is this one vegan Italian spot called Pura Vita. It’s crazy because it’s vegan and you expect it to not hit the same way but it does. It doesn't taste vegan at all, I love that spot. I also just ride my motorbike everywhere.
[UNPUBLISHED:] Whose set are you most excited to see at Outside Lands?
[DUCKWRTH:] I’m excited to see Hiatus Kaiyote. haven't seen them play in a long time and they go right after us too. They’re going to do “Red Room” for sure and that’s going to be crazy.
